The foundation of hip hop culture is rooted in five essential elements; DJing, MCing, B-boying, Graffiti, and Knowledge. DJ Kool Herc's invention of the "breakbeat" technique established the sound, providing the sonic canvas for B-boys and B-girls to dance, and for the MCs to rhyme to the rhythm. The culture has remained a vehicle for self-truth, historical awareness, and community empowerment, uniting these artistic disciplines under the guiding principles of Peace, Unity, Love, and Community.
